Juan C. Rodriguez and Carmen Triana are a photographer/stylist team based between Colombia and Spain. Friends since childhood, the pair seeks to merge fashion photography with elements of tradition, fantasy, and personal exploration. Their most recent project examines the exquisite pain of time and distance between friends, pulling inspiration from their home country of Colombia and the natural world.

What has been your proudest moment as a photographer?
Our proudest moment was the whole spiritual and professional growth we have had since we moved to Europe from Colombia, allowing us to work with a broader mind, express our background, and having our work published in magazines from different parts of the world.

Who inspired you to pursue photography?
Carmen: I got inspired by my family. My grandfather works in theater and is a film director, and my great-grandfather used to be a painter. They both inspired me to become a photographer.

Juan Camilo: I got inspired by a necessity for self-expression in our country, which is pretty conservative, and my art teacher from school who always pushed me and helped my parents understand why art was so important to me.

Which artists do you most admire?
Georgia O’Keefe, Sally Mann, Egon Schiele, and Herbert List.

What has been the hardest lesson you’ve learned as a photographer?
Nothing ever is or turns out as you expected and learning to not only deal but to love the results and take a lesson from each one of them.
