01 The Competition The New Vanguard is a new curatorial platform for discovering and celebrating emerging visionary talents. This season's competition will provide 25 visionary photographers the opportunity to be featured on Document's online and printed platforms, as well as at an exhibition in October 2018. Document has welcomed applicants from around the world to submit their work, inviting submissions from unrepresented talents of all ages and backgrounds, from over 50 countries, with a focus on discovering new and visionary photographers across fashion and the fine arts.
02 The Prize Document will showcase the work of one select winner on a special cover of the Fall/Winter 2018 edition of Document Journal, the five finalists will have the opportunity to shoot a special Document fashion story, and 25 visionary semi-finalists will be featured in an exhibition at Aperture Foundation in October 2018 and on Document Online.

Nick Vogelson is the Editor-in-Chief, Creative Director, and Co-Founder of Document. Since 2012, Vogelson’s vision and steadfast approach to cultural curation has catalyzed Document into the multifaceted platform it is today.
Sarah Richardson is the Fashion Director of Document, as well as a contributing fashion editor at British Vogue. Richardson’s iconic work has been featured in titles such as Vogue Italia, i-D, W Magazine, and Another Magazine, and has worked closely with photographers Hedi Slimane, Mario Sorrenti, Richard Bush, and brands such as Lanvin, Jil Sander, and Saint Laurent.
Olivier Rizzo is a stylist, consultant, and contributing fashion editor for Document. His advertising clients include Calvin Klein, Prada, Raf Simons, and Dior Homme, and his iconic editorial work is regularly featured in Vogue Italia, i-D, Another Magazine,and Love.
Mario Sorrenti is one of the most respected photographers of our time. His career was established after shooting Kate Moss for the iconic Calvin Klein Obsession campaign. Sorrenti’s clients include Saint Laurent, Emporio Armani, Calvin Klein, Jil Sander, Tom Ford, Kenzo, Document Journal, Vogue, W Magazine, Another Magazine,and Purple, and his work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions and books.
Doug Lloyd is the Creative Director and Founder of Lloyd&Co. Under his leadership, the creative agency has produced campaigns for Calvin Klein, Gucci, Estée Lauder, Jil Sander, and Saint Laurent, among others.
Christopher Michael is the Chief Creative Officer at FORD Models. Throughout his career, Christopher has sparked and moderated dialogues about style, design, and identity.
Michael Famighetti is the Editor of Aperture magazine. His writing has been featured in Frieze, Bookforum, and OjodePez, and he is currently a visiting critic at Yale University School of Art and a participant in SVA’s Mentors program.
Drew Sawyer is the Phillip Leonian and Edith Rosenbaum Leonian Curator of Photography at the Brooklyn Museum and Art Editor at Document. He was previously a curator at the Columbus Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Lorna Simpson is a photographer and multimedia artist. Her work has been exhibited at leading institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Walker Art Center, the New Museum, and the Whitney Museum.
Roxana Marcoci is the Senior Curator in the Department of Photography at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Roxana is also a visiting professor at Yale University School of Arts and chairs MoMA’s Modern Women’s Fund Committee.
Candice Marks is the Vice President of Art Partner, a leading artist management and creative content agency with an influential roster of artists including Mario Sorrenti, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, and Harley Weir.
Willy Vanderperre is amongst the most influential fashion photographers of our time, and is a contributing artist at Document. His campaign highlights include Calvin Klein, Raf Simons, and Prada, and his editorial work has been featured in the pages of W Magazine, Vogue Hommes International, and American Vogue, just to name a few.
Peter Fitzpatrick is the founder of Swipecast, a networking platform that connects the top creatives in the fashion industry with luxury brands. Peter holds degrees from Harvard and Cambridge University.
