The Dutch model documents her time at Fashion Week, donning show-stealing looks for Moschino and Balmain

For Maaike Klaasen, the year is off to a running start. The last few months have seen the model in a campaign for AREA x Sergio Rossi, and on the cover of Numéro. For Fall/Winter Fashion Week, she hit Milan and Paris, walking first for Moschino in a punky ensemble and mohawk, and then for Balmain in a diamond-encrusted gown. Though the looks were polar opposites, Klaasen assumed both with total ease—testament to her skill as a model.

For Document, Klaasen diaries the journey from her native Amsterdam to fashion’s biggest capitals, stopping along the way for comp cards, wigs, and plenty of €1.50 cappuccinos.

Left: Off to Fashion Week! Picking up comp cards at my agency in Amsterdam. Right: Feeling my look.

The day after I arrived in Milan, I had a shoot in Paris where they gave me a little makeover. Here I am with my fellow models (wigs by Pablo Kuemin).

Left: After a few days of castings back in Milan, I do my first show. It’s for Moschino! Right: An overview of the looks. (I’m Little Miss 32.)

Left: The hair and makeup. Right: Lining up for rehearsal.

Left: The hair was a really cool, constructed kind of mohawk by Paul Hanlon. Thank god they had signs everywhere, as I think, with the hair, we were two meters tall, bumping into everything. Right: After the show in my look! Loved my punky dress by Jeremy Scott.

Left: At castings, you end up running into friends a lot. Here I am with Yuki van Gog. Right: And, of course, Milan is not complete without non-stop €1.50 cappuccinos.

Left: In Paris, I ended up confirming the Balmain show. Here are some of the looks! Right: A better look; it was really exquisite to get to wear this piece—a handmade diamond dress!

Left: The shoes. We love a comfy heel. Right: My look for Balmain, spotted in the New York Times.

That’s a wrap on Fashion Week! I ended up being followed around by my bum.
