For Summer 2022, Hedi Slimane pushes kitten heels, friendship bracelets, and your daily dose of Vitamin C
For its Summer 2022 collection, Celine heads to Nice. A short film—directed by Hedi Slimane and entitled Baie des Anges—replaces the traditional runway, to present the new women’s line against the saturated pinks, greens, and blues of the Mediterranean seafront. Nice is the quintessential backdrop of the Celine woman: It’s fresh, it’s classic, it’s cool. Models stride to the beat of Can’s “Vitamin C,” framed by the city’s most iconic structures. The Promenade des Anglais is lovingly featured, as are Le Negresco hotel, Villa Masséna Museum, and the Côte d’Azur Observatory.
The clothing is self-assured; it’s sophisticated in a recognizably Celine manner, with a distinct air of playfulness. Denim and leather go well alongside sequins, camouflage, and drawstring athletic skirts. Kitten heels are the perfect contrast to a selection of classic, black boots. Notably, Celine introduces two new jean styles, called Polly and Kitty, as well as a jewelry line inspired by childhood tchotchkes. Baie des Anges is Slimane’s ode to sun and leisure—to warmth, to optimism, and to good times ahead.
