Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons presented a modernist view of sensuality, reconsidering clothing's core essentials

Prada’s Spring/Summer 2022 show used a unique new format: a merging of physical and virtual world views, staged simultaneously in Milan and Shanghai. The two shows were streamed in synchronicity, engaging in a virtual conversation on parallel video screens.

Modernism is explored in the show through use of technology, and new concepts of desire through dressing. The contemporary idea of seduction is transcribed through reduction—not only in minimizing the garments, revealing bare chests under open leather jackets and bare legs under boxy satin skirts, but in pieces that were recontextualized from their origins and stripped back, summarized. The lace and bones of a corset, the curve of a bra, a satin dress train; all gesture at clothing’s core essentials. The body was seen freed, outlined and abstracted in a new expression of sexuality through the impressions and memories of a garment.
