Fashion, at its very best, is a question and not an answer. For photographer Sodai Yokoyama and stylist Ai Takahashi fashion is staged, but the artists engage in the 盗撮 (tousatsu) practice, in which the photographed subject is not aware of the photographer’s lens. A practice much less about “shooting” and more about observing. Here they employ fashion as a point of entry—an excuse, even—to inquire about the world in front of and around us.
