Louis Vuitton has set up a “temporary residency” inside the West Village’s Chrome Hearts flagship, allowing fans first dibs on Virgil Abloh’s debut Spring/Summer 2019 collection for the fashion house. And in true Abloh form, the devil is in the details. The space comes complete with a Louis Vuitton emblem-clad dining room set and metallic quilted living room furniture. The salespeople are easy to envy in matching black uniforms with rainbow detailing and black enamel belt chains. The much coveted clothing, bags, and leather goods were tucked inside crates covered in a combination of Louis Vuitton and Chrome Hearts logos, and the warning: “FRAGILE.”
The pop-up will be held in the space from January 10 through January 17 before the new collection floods into retailers. Meanwhile, over at the Fifth Avenue flagship (and the Rodeo Drive flagship in Los Angeles), Louis Vuitton has created a traffic-halting window display featuring a giant rainbow figure, inspired by Abloh’s luminous debut collection for the brand. Run, don’t walk, to the pop-up to get the keepall bag in that iconic iridescent hue.
