“My early work was influenced by Helmut Newton, but I just wasn’t a good photographer, so it was blurry and out of focus,” photographer Nan Goldin told critic Vince Aletti in a conversation for Document No. 4. Here, decades after Goldin’s inimitable eye earned her position in the pantheon of great photographic minds for her precise detailing of human interaction, she presents an exclusive book of portraits for Document in collaboration with Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello. For the project, Goldin traveled to Bisenthal, Germany to photograph her muses.
