In this fashion portfolio shot exclusively for Document, photographer Marc Hibbert and stylist Lilia Toncheva O’Rourke explore the pristine lines of one of Britain’s oldest heritage brands, Mackintosh as well as the house’s collaborations with Kiko Kostadinov, Masion Margiela and Alyx. The company recently introduced a new line, with the 27-year-old Kiko Kostadinov, a graduate of Central Saint Martins, as Creative Director. His debut collection 0001 came January 2017 at Paris Fashion Week in a torrent of dark, conceptual silhouettes. In June 2017 Kostadinov showed 0002, with exaggerations on the silhouette and an emphasis on discreet construction and unisex fit. Each of his pieces for the brand reflect the company’s ethic of sturdy construction, a quality that left a mark on Kostadinov from the outset of his tenure. “I was impressed by Mackintosh’s level of manufacturing, its use of fabric—especially rubberized cotton—and its traditional hand-made techniques,” he told Document. “With each collection, I try to introduce a new conceptual narrative that contextualizes the brand’s timeless qualities. Collections are numbered, allowing each capsule to be viewed as both a new chapter as well as a continuation of the previous collection.”
