Hinted earlier this year, Stella McCartney made her much-awaited menswear debut this past week in London, offering a modern day hippy meets East End crook kind of vibe. Stationed at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, the show homaged the British designer’s unavoidable music history with a nod to sub cultures across the decades and echoed all of McCartney’s long-established, core strengths. Quintessentially English with swallow details, proportion was king as large graphics clashed with irreverent, sportswear styles. Following the designer’s outspoken commitment to sustainability, the collection was produced environmentally responsible and used materials such as sustainable viscose, regenerated cashmere, organic cotton and denim, recycled nylon, wood and cork, and eco alter nappa. Accessories, including new lives of signature bags, followed suit, with a masculine yet effortless coolness. Reflected in both material and spectacle—the event spotlit special performances from Beastie Boys, Gorrilaz, and Run DMC legacies—as much as it is emblematic of the past, the new era of Stella starts now.
Stella McCartney’s debut menswear line for Spring/Summer 2017 will be available for pre-order starting November 11, 2016 and available in stores starting January 2017.
